Panasonic Lumix DMC FX35S 10MP Digital Camera with 4x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom Silver
Overview
With four aspherical lenses and six aspherical surfaces, including an EA (Extra High Refractive Index Aspherical) lens, Panasonic’s DMC-FX35 Lumix digital camera features a 25mm wide-angle Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens with a 4x optical zoom that’s compact enough to fit in a slim, stylish body. This advanced lens system allows you to capture images with a sense of spatial breadth and depth that simply isn’t possible with a 35mm camera. Set the FX35 to iA mode and let the five Intelligent Auto functions team up to help prevent shooting errors. Intelligent Exposure corrects lighting differences, so images come out just the way you see them; Intelligent Scene Selector chooses the mode that best fits the situation; MEGA Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) helps prevent blurring from hand-shake; Intelligent ISO Control helps prevent motion blur; and Face Detection helps produce clear portraits by optimizing the focus and exposure settings. The FX35 can record motion images with sensational 1280 x 720 HD resolution at 30fps. You can use the zoom, too, and capture some truly dramatic shots. f=4.4-17.6mm (35mm Equiv. – 25-100mm) Focal Length 2.5 Diagonal Polycrystalline TFT LCD Display (230K dots) Focusing Area Normal – 50cm – infinity, Macro / Intelligent AUTO / Clipboard – wide 5cm/Tele 50cm – infinity 8 – 1/2,000 sec. 5 Stars small size, great pics and HD video
The title says it all. OK, one possible shortcoming: You cannot operate the zoom while shooting video. I haven't found it to be a big issue, because I know to plan ahead... and the HD is so good it really doesn't make a big difference.
The camera is durable... it survived all of the (non-water) rides at Disney FL in my pocket for a week with no issues or blemishes to the case. It seems to take very nice photos of very large mice and ducks.
Get the extreme III chip... it allows you to shoot faster photos. That's a key point... if you have kids or other creatures that move quickly, this is a good tool to capture the moment. Burst mode exists, but I've rarely had a need for it.
3 Stars Great Feature set,but dissapointing day light and indoor performance I bought this camera after reading reviews from several websites, but kind of dissapointed on the image quality in daylight and indoors. The image quality for daylight and indoor shots are not comparable to its counterparts like canon and sony within the same price range and same specs.i thought mine had a wider lens, but sony's slim selection takes much more wider, much more sharper and color rich images. The images from day light and indoor shots have traces of noise and colors are kind of pale.Whereas when you compare the outdoor nightshots with its counterparts it outperforms them, everybody appreciated the night shots taken from my camera at my last trip in vegas.BTW all these complaints above are on the shots taken using intelligent auto mode,i tried taking shots with the presets available and the images were slightly better than intelligent auto at some occasions.battery life is good, video recording is good too,but you cannot zoom while recording a video.Image stabilization works better than counter parts.Overall a camera with many features and average image quality.I spent around 290$ on this a year back.but it looks like it has gone down by more than 100$,but i will reccomend to look around before opting for this one as there are many other camera brands available which provide similar or better feature set and a better image quality for the same price.
5 Stars great camera i asked for a recommendation from my friend who is a photographer before i get a camera and he recommended this one. i like it alot.
2 Stars Decent Camera but it should perform better for the price
While I like the camera design and menu layout I'm disappointed with its performance in situations where it is low light. While it does get a picture off they have lots of image noise. I also purchased this camera for its video recording capabilities and while the video looks great although it doesn't seem to focus once you start recording (I can get over this) the sound quality is horrid. Everything I record has so much hissing you can't even hear the sounds. This is the most disappointing part of the camera I really wanted to record small things for my wife but instead I find myself pulling out the full video camera anyhow. Also when taking videos outside if the sun hits the sensor it will turn a portion of the video purple. I'm not sure if this happens on others camera but I never had this problem on my old Sony Cybershot.
This camera has been really good when we are outside at a park and where light is plentiful.
If I was to make this decision again I would probably look at a Canon or Nikon camera. I would not recommend this product.
5 Stars love the camera
For several years, I have searched the camera world for a digital camera that had the capabilities I required. Finally the digital world is evolving beyond a point and shoot digital. My Lumix camera is wonderful and easy to learn. the buying experience with Amazon is clean, fast, and without a hitch. Kudos.
